About the Journal

SSJSSH is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal (free for readers) that deals with both applied and theoretical issues. The journal is published by the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania. 

The journal publishes full papers from various fields, including agricultural development, development studies, planning and management, project management and evaluation, language issues, gender issues, anthropology, economics, education, geography, history, political science, sociology, and related fields. In addition, special issues on important socio-economic topics will be published from time to time as needs arise. The main objective of SSJSSH is to provide an intellectual platform for scholars in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond to present their work, thereby contributing to society’s development. In addition, the journal aims at promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary debates in social sciences and humanities. 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

  1. Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles (7,000–10,000 words)
  • Short Communications/Reports (2,000–3,000 words)
  • Review Articles (systematic or critical reviews)
  • Book Reviews (1,000–1,500 words)
  1. Submission Requirements

Authors must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
  • All authors have approved the submission
  • The manuscript aligns with the journal’s scope
  • Ethical standards and research integrity are strictly observed

All submissions must be made through the journal’s online submission system (OJS).

  1. Manuscript Preparation

3.1 General Format

  • Language: English
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

3.2 Structure of the Manuscript

Manuscripts should be organized as follows:

  1. Title Page
    • Title of the article
    • Author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), and email address(es)
  2. Abstract (250–300 words)
    • Briefly state the purpose, methods, results, and key conclusions
  3. Keywords
    • Provide 4–6 keywords
  4. Main Text
    • Introduction
    • Literature Review (or Background)
    • Methodology
    • Results/Findings
    • Discussion
    • Conclusion and Recommendations/Policy Implications
  5. Acknowledgements (if applicable)
  6. References
  1. Referencing Style
  • Use APA (7th Edition) referencing style
  • Ensure all cited works appear in the reference list and vice versa
  • Include DOIs where available
  1. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
  • Must be clearly labeled and numbered
  • Include titles and sources
  • Submitted in editable format 
  1. Ethical Considerations

Authors must:

  • Ensure originality and proper citation
  • Avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, and duplication
  • Obtain necessary ethical approvals where applicable
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest
  1. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work.
All articles are published under an open-access license, preferably the:

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0)

This permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

  1. Peer Review Process
  • All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review
  • Initial screening by the editorial team
  • Review by at least two independent reviewers

Final decision made by the Editor.
